 Gene Boshkaykin

Gene Boshkaykin, Ojibwe, was born in Fort Frances, Ontario and is of the Seine River First Gene BoshkaykinNation.  While residing in Seine River, Gene was first inspired to draw by Sterling Johnson, an up and coming Native Artist, whose talents could have taken him far.  Sadly, Sterling passed away.

During his childhood, Gene moved to Duluth, Minnesota to be with his mother and attended the public school.  Later, Gene did civilian work for the city (police) for six years and and attended Community College, transferring later to the University of Minnesota, majoring in fine arts and minoring in native studies.  Drawing with colored pencils during his teenage years and getting into acrylic painting in high school, Gene excelled in art classes.  He also studied graphic art in university.  After university, Gene worked as a screenprinter for two years and finally moved back to Canada to be closer to his family.

Gene was the featured artist for an art show in conjunction with the Spirit Mountain NI-MI-WIN pow wow in 1993 as well as cover artist for the UMD AILRC 1998 art auction poster. Gene has also sold paintings to Jeno Paulucci, Grandma's restaurant chain owner. He has participated in various art shows at Community College and UMD and has also been published in a book called "Diana in Art" Chaucer Press/PopArt (August 27, 2007).

Gene currently resides in Thunder bay, Ontario.
