Commitment to our Region

The Lake Superior Art Gallery and our artists are committed to using art as a way to help in our region.

With this goal in mind,  volunteer charitable groups are invited to apply for a donation of Regional Art Work to be used as part of a larger fundraising event to help our region.

By donating art work, the Lake Superior Art Gallery and artists  benefit from their work being seen by a larger audience and the charitable group benefits from the money they can raise by selling the art work.

Frank Edgson of North Shore Steelhead Assoc.

Frank Edgson, Co-chairman of the Dinner Auction committee for the North Shore Steelhead Assoc. holds a painting by Ray Swaluk.

The Painting will be auctioned off as part of their annual fund raising dinner to be held at the DaVinci Centre on the evening of March the 26th starting at 5:30 pm.  Tickets are still available, and can be purchased at DnR Sporting Goods on Memorial Avenue.

Monies raised from the dinner will be used for habitat improvement projects on tributaries of Lake Superior, and for a park creation project.  The Fisherman’s Park project, located at the mouth of the Current River, is a partnership effort with the City of Thunder Bay, which will see the property developed into a community park. The project is entering its 2nd phase which will see picnic tables and shelters installed, and the trails paved by the fall of 2010. Additional improvements are planned in the future.  The NSSA is also working with the Lakehead Region Conservation Authority to develop a new bank stabilization concept which would utilize bioengineering techniques. This concept is scheduled to be implemented on the McIntyre River downstream of Central Avenue later this summer.

This is the 27th year that the North Shore Steelhead Assoc has be holding he dinner and the 10th year that Ray has been donating his paintings. In recognition of Ray’s generosity and support, he was awarded the Alex Ross memorial conservation award in 2009.

Arthur Street, Thunder Bay, ON.
