Frank Edgson, Co-chairman of the Dinner Auction committee for the North Shore Steelhead Assoc. holds a painting by Ray Swaluk.
The Painting will be auctioned off as part of their annual fund raising dinner to be held at the DaVinci Centre on the evening of March the 26th starting at 5:30 pm. Tickets are still available, and can be purchased at DnR Sporting Goods on Memorial Avenue.
Monies raised from the dinner will be used for habitat improvement projects on tributaries of Lake Superior, and for a park creation project. The Fisherman’s Park project, located at the mouth of the Current River, is a partnership effort with the City of Thunder Bay, which will see the property developed into a community park. The project is entering its 2nd phase which will see picnic tables and shelters installed, and the trails paved by the fall of 2010. Additional improvements are planned in the future. The NSSA is also working with the Lakehead Region Conservation Authority to develop a new bank stabilization concept which would utilize bioengineering techniques. This concept is scheduled to be implemented on the McIntyre River downstream of Central Avenue later this summer.

Photo of Peter Humeniuk, Artist in Residence, presenting a watercolour painting to Valentina Bobrowski for a benefit in honor of her sister Valorie. Valerie is 44 years old, a wife, mother of two, daughter, daughter-in-law, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, and friend. Recently her world came crashing down when she was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Her family then travelled with her to Toronto for a biopsy only to discover that the tumour was highly cancerous and inoperable due to the size and location. Doctors then informed them that an aggressive chemo and radiation schedule was the only available course of action. As a result of the tumour's size and location, basic functions we take for granted everyday such as sight, hearing, speech, balance and memory are rapidly deteriorating. The benefit will be held on Friday November 20th from 8pm-2am at Scuttlebutt's, located at the Victoria Inn, 555 W. Arthur Street, Thunder Bay, ON.
